ABAC Events for Members

First ABAC Meeting

The first ABAC meeting was held in Wellington, New Zealand on 9-12 February, 2009. As part of APEC's continuing efforts to incorporate business inputs into the agenda, and to enhance cooperation and interaction between APEC and ABAC, a capacity building seminar on "Trading across Borders" and an ABAC-APEC Senior Officials' Dialogue were held on the fringes of the meeting. The first meeting for 2009 had a strong focus on the global financial crisis and ways in which economies could mitigate its effects.

Second ABAC Meeting

ABAC’s second meeting for 2009 was held in Bandar Seri Begawan, the Brunei on 11-15 May 2009 against the background of the H1N1 virus and the ongoing economic crisis. The latter was much on everyone’s mind as it had been at the meeting in Wellington last February. Much discussion at the meeting itself, as at the APEC SME Summit which preceded it, was focused on whether the bottom to the crisis had finally been reached.

Third ABAC Meeting

The third meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) this year will be held in the central city of Da Nang, Vietnam from August 24-27. Around 200 leaders of regional leading economic groups, researchers and officials from 21 members of APEC will attend the meeting. The meeting is in preparation for the APEC Summit to be held in Singapore at the end of the year.
